Jon Bestow FIRRV was appointed Registrar and Chief Clerk of the Valuation Tribunal for England from 1 July 2009. Jon has been involved in the Tribunal arena for well over twenty years. He has been heavily involved in the training of members nationally for many years as well as implementing an appraisal scheme. He has recently created on-line training material for new members.

Jon was clerk to the Suffolk Valuation Tribunal when it was awarded an IRRV performance award. Jon has worked closely with the Presidents of the Tribunal on drafting, implementing and amending Practice Statements to produce an improved process for users and panels to operate within as well as, training members and staff.

Jon provides the judicial steer for clerks and other members of staff. He frequently clerks the most complicated cases that the Tribunal hears, including recently drafting the judgment on ATMs.

Jon recently joined the JAC interview panels involved in the recruitment of new chairmen and members to the Tribunal.

Jon sat on a DCLG working party looking at appeal reform.
