As Chief Valuer, Alan is a member of the Valuation Office (VO) Senior Leadership Team, contributing to the organisation’s corporate leadership and strategic direction.
He is directly accountable for valuation and professional standards and is head of the surveying profession within the VO. He plays a pivotal role in building and sustaining confidence and trust in the VO’s valuations and property advice. He leads large, complex transformation programmes in the VO aimed at modernising valuation delivery and improving customer experience.
A Chartered Surveyor for over 35 years, he attained his RICS Rating Diploma in 2000 and went on to serve as Chair of the section in 2017. In 2025, he was elected to the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyor’s Governing Council helping to set the RICS Global Strategy and ensuring it fulfils its Royal Charter obligations. Alan regularly represents the VO and the surveying profession engaging with a range of professional bodies in national and international forums.
