Peter qualified as a solicitor in 1975; and between then and 1993 worked for the Inland Revenue, where he advised the Valuation Office on a range of valuation issues, before earning a partnership in one of the biggest law firms in the City. He then set up and ran his own legal practice from 1993 until he retired from practice in 2007, with over sixty reported cases in rating valuation, collection and compensation, and judicial review to his credit. He now offers services to public and private sectors alike in rating valuation and collection, compulsory purchase and compensation, judicial review and public procurement problems.
Peter sits as a member of the Valuation Tribunal Users’ Group which advises the President of the English tribunal on matters of practice and procedure: he is an accredited mediator, a former part-time Chairman of the London Rent Assessment Committee and Leasehold Valuation Tribunal, a co-founder of the Compulsory Purchase Association, and a past Chairman; and an Honorary Member of the Rating Surveyors’ Association. He is a member of IRRV Council, Chairman of its Valuation Faculty Board (The Valuers’ Association) and a past Chairman and President of the London and Home Counties Association of the Institute. He contributes regularly to Institute magazines on current topics.
