Richard is a partner based the Gerald Eve city office and advises on a range of property tax / rating, lease consultancy and valuation issues. He specialises in strategic rating advice to occupiers and landlords in the City and Docklands.

He currently focuses on the insurance and banking sectors, including JPMorgan Chase, Prudential, Standard Life, BP, Swiss Re, Credit Suisse, ING Bank and Société Générale.

Specific experience

Advising Swiss Re throughout the development of their iconic building at 30 St Mary Axe, including agreeing the assessment of the office floors and the ‘top of building’ bar and restaurant.

Appointed by the City of London Corporation to deal with the investment and occupied portfolio, including the main Guildhall complex which has recently undergone a major refurbishment and rebuild.

Acting on behalf of Unilever in relation to their new HQ building on Victoria Embankment and the UK head offices of other major financial institutions in the City such as Prudential, SocGen and ING.

Managing large national portfolios such as JPMorgan Chase, Gala Coral, Standard Life and Kaplan Financial.

Advising Standard Life on its entire occupational and investment portfolio across the UK.

Devising specific strategies in respect of empty properties to mitigate empty rate liability for numerous institutional and private landlords, including Standard Life Investments, Aberdeen Property Investors and Invesco Real Estate.
