Director, HS2AA (HS2 Action Alliance), Partner, Wharf Weston

Economist. Following a 17-year IR career in the coal industry, the founding partner of a small railway management consultancy specialising latterly in bidding for rail franchises.

Director of HS2 Action Alliance (HS2AA) created days after HS2 announced in 2010 to campaign for a fairer deal on compensation and to challenge the flawed economic and environmental case for HS2. Developed and championed the case for a Property Bond solution for those exposed to ‘generalised blight’.

Argued the case for modernising compensation with a Property Bond in 8 Government consultations, with 3 Secretaries of State, and to both the House of Commons and the House of Lords Select Committees, winning improvements to the HS2 compensation scheme in the House of Lords. Steered the successful High Court action against DfT that rejected the Property Bond solution, forcing them to think again.

First hand experience of suffering ‘generalised blight’ when HS2 was routed yards from her home. Recently negotiated her way through the archaic, arbitrary, and inequitable discretionary compensation scheme for HS2.
