Alistair is the current National President of the Institute of Revenues, Rating and Valuation. He  has over 30 years Revenues and Benefits experience within the public sector, initially working for a couple of Nottinghamshire Councils and latterly as Head of Revenues & Benefits for Milton Keynes Council. During the latter years of his public sector employment, Alistair became a leading authority on rates retention and anti-avoidance, including taking and winning high profile cases through the Court of Appeal. Alistair has extensive experience representing local authorities in Magistrates Courts and Valuation Tribunals and has significant experience managing Revenues and Benefits in both Districts and Unitary authorities.

Since 2018, Alistair has operated his own consultancy and Interim management business, working for both the public and private sector. Throughout this time, Alistair has provided Consultancy support to Wilks Head and Eve. In this role, in addition to managing local authority client services for Wilks Head and Eve’s  Revenues Assurance service, Alistair has provided specialist local taxation advice to both the partnership and to their public sector clients, particularly in relation to Rates Retention and rating liability generally.

Alistair regularly speaks at a variety of professional conferences and has represented local authorities on a number of Working Groups with Central Government, most latterly giving evidence on behalf of the IRRV to the  Housing, Communities and Local Government (HCLG) Committee in relation to their inquiry into council tax collection in England.
