Karl was worked within the VOA since 1987, having joined on the Graduate scheme. His formative years were spent dealing with compensation claims in respect of the M25, North Circular and A10 improvement works. In 1995 he was lured in the world of rating and has been unable to escape since.

In 2005 Karl joined what was the Specialist Rating Unit South and dealt with a diversity of property including Film and TV studios, department stores and markets. In 2011 Karl moved to the London Rating team and is currently the Complex Appeals and Case Manager for the Unit. This role has involved interesting cases relating to unit of assessment/occupation, assessment of advertising rights and  scope/validity of proposals. 

In 2017 he gained the Rating Diploma and is now one of the Lead Assessors of the International Property Taxation module.
