Denise is a Principal at Avison Young. She has over 35 years’ experience as a rating advisor in private practice based in central London, having started her career in the Valuation Office Agency originally in Maidenhead and then Westminster.

Denise has extensive experience in the different forms of rating valuation, through to negotiating and settling appeals on a wide range of properties throughout England and Wales. Her particular expertise is in the valuation of specialist properties valued on the Contractor’s Basis including, defence and specialist research establishments, large industrial plants, infrastructure, independent schools and universities. She advises both the public and private sectors on their business rates liabilities.

Denise became a chartered surveyor in 1982. She achieved the highly regarded Rating Diploma qualification in 1989, becoming the first woman to take and pass the exams. She was Secretary to the Rating Surveyor’s Association for 8 years before becoming the President of the RSA in 2001 (the first and, so far, only women to hold the post). She continues to be an active member of the rating profession.
