Colin Hunter is a Director with Lambert Smith Hampton based in the Leeds office dealing mainly with rating appeals.


His career in rating started as a Cadet Valuer in the Valuation Office in 1982 before moving to private practice in 1989.  He has dealt with the changing appeals systems from the 1973 Valuation List to the current 2017 Rating List.


He is the retained advisor to the Association of Independent Museums and recently appeared at Upper Tribunal (Lands Chamber) as Expert Witness dealing with receipts and expenditure valuations for York Museums & Gallery Trust (Stephen G Hughes (VO) v York Museums & Gallery Trust [2017]), Exeter City Council (Stephen G Hughes (VO) v Exeter City Council [2019]) Tyne & Wear Archives & Museum (Justin Allen (VO) v Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums [2022]) and Mr and Mrs Fryer (Joe and Valery Fryer v Wayne Cox (VO) [2022]).  He claims to have dealt with receipts and expenditure valuations for properties ranging from caves to castles.

For relaxation he is an Advanced Tai Chi instructor registered with Tai Chi Union for Great Britain.
