Bas is a Chartered Surveyor with over 20 years of experience who joined High Speed Two (HS2) Ltd in September 2020 where he is Senior Commercial Development Manager for the West Midlands region responsible for providing leadership in driving HS2’s commercial development activities focusing on Curzon Street (Birmingham city centre), East Birmingham and wider regional opportunities. In his role, working alongside HS2 delivery teams and external stakeholders, Bas ensures that HS2 in the Midlands continues to remain a catalyst for growth, seeks to capture maximum value, meets regeneration and employment objectives from HS2 Commercial Development opportunities.
Bas joined HS2 from Transport for London (TfL) where he delivered against property development targets to maximise residential led development from its assets. TfL was targeting 10,000 new homes whilst driving long term sustainable revenue from schemes. His notable projects included establishing private sector build to rent joint ventures at Nine Elms and Oval, London with Grainger Plc.
Prior to TfL, Bas worked as an in- house property development consultant
at Birmingham City Council and delivered projects, alongside Council partners
and private sector expert developers, to meet the vision of the Council’s Big
City Plan and their Birmingham Development Plan (BDP). Notable schemes
included a number of high profile city centre residential developments with the
likes of Barratt Homes and Berkeley Homes. Regeneration of a major town
centre brownfield site to facilitate a new vibrant local centre and Life
Sciences Campus, Selly Oak alongside Sainsburys, Landsec and Birmingham Health
Partners (University of Birmingham). Masterplanning and subsequent developer
procurement of IM Properties PLC for a landmark employment use site that is set
to deliver thousands of new and skilled jobs for the City and West Mids region.
