Philip Maude is a planning lawyer and one of the leading specialists in compulsory purchase and compensation law in England and Wales. Philip’s work covers both preparation and implementation of orders and advising on compensation claims and appearing in the Upper Tribunal (Lands Chamber). Philip is also involved in work relating to Transport and Works Orders and Development Consent Orders where compulsory purchase is involved.

Philip’s clients include both public and private sector and both Acquiring Authorities and Claimants. Philip has considerable experience in dealing with utilities. He recently successfully promoted a 700 plot CPO for underground gas storage. He is very experienced in acting for utility companies on compensation claims particularly electricity lines and is currently advising on multi million pound claims for a leading utility provider.

Philip also advises on major housing and town centre regeneration projects which involve a multi-disciplinary approach. He often leads these projects and has had successful outcomes in London, Workington, Fleetwood, North Shields, Sunderland, Hull, Manchester Sheffield and Lichfield.

Philip has handled a number of cases in the Upper Tribunal, notably Acrofame, Stynes, Clearun , TEB, and Jumbuk.

Philip is the co-author of an RICS publication on Compulsory Purchase and Compensation. He is a member of the Law Society’s Specialist Planning Panel and a Legal Associate of the Royal Town Planning Institute. He is a member of the Compulsory Purchase Association and in 2010/2011 was National Chairman and is currently secretary.. He is described in Chambers as “an outstanding CPO specialist, praised by sources for his "incredibly thorough understanding of this specialist area."
