Compulsory purchase is an essential tool in bringing about change. From enabling a single vacant residential property to become beneficially occupied to large scale regeneration projects, the appropriate use of compulsory purchase orders (CPOs) can provide certainty on the costs, timing and risks associated with the land assembly process.

This importance has been recognised and reinforced by Government, with recent and ongoing legislative change, updated Guidance and even directly from the Minister of State for Housing and Planning, who recently wrote to all planning authorities and other bodies, urging them to consider how compulsory purchase might be used to bring about change.
