HS2 is not on track

MPs say the HS2 rail link needs a "realistic timetable" and believe the current schedule is "overly ambitious".

So far we don't know much about the HS2 project, and the large amount of costs that have been involved,( it is currently it is due to cost over £55 billion) and not to mention the time it is taking overall. On Wednesday 14th September MPs announced that they would like to see a "realistic timetable" for HS2's completion and that the current time table is "overly ambitious".

The current timetable shows that phase 1 of the project which runs between the west midlands and London is due to open in December of this year. However those in charge of the project are now expected to extend it by a further year!

A government spokesperson has said "We are keeping a tough grip on costs, and pressing ahead with plans for Phase Two - with further details due to be announced this autumn," In the report the committee did state that there had been "considerable progress" with the HS2 project since the first report in three years ago in 2013.

However the committee chair Meg Hiller has stated that the public aren't the only ones in the dark about the project, and that parliament are also.

She said “Lack of clarity over plans for HS2 in South Yorkshire highlights what is at stake for communities and local economies, and why government must explain its intentions and the basis for its decisions in a transparent manner”.

This means that the pressure on the government is increasing to provide piece of mind to the public on the project and what is happening.

The public are also waiting for the anticipated announcement of where the second phase of HS2 is going to go, phase 2 is the part which will go just north of Birmingham on to Manchester and Leeds.

Business leaders and the public want clarity on the topic and I hope we a brought in to the light soon.
