There has, for some time, been a drive towards reaching Net Zero, which includes reducing or eliminating fossil fuels. A significant part of this goal relies on transitioning to renewable and sustainable sources of energy generation, with the electricity grid needing reinforcement and being expanded with new transmission and distribution infrastructure.
Whilst work has already commenced, there is much more that needs to be done existing lines and cables potentially need to be upgraded to increase capacity and new lines and cables need to be installed. Meanwhile substations, transformers and other infrastructure need upgrading. All this work will require access to land and property rights.
The Code of Practice is aimed at professionals who advise on
land rights for electricity infrastructure, as well as electricity license
holders and is to be considered as best practice.
